The Nature of The Soul

Lesson 8 Transmutation Technique

It's not " necessary" to do the Transmutation Technique every day, but it is one of the most important things those on the Path _can_ do every day. One may and at various times should practice and/or use additional adjustment and healing methods, such as the See-la-Aum technique, the tech's in Lesson 21, Flower Essences (Perelandra, FES, Bach), MAP, Orion, Rainbow Bridge, etc. However, the transmutation technique on p. 103 of N.S. is the foundation, the tech that sets the daily rhythm of bringing the Light of the Soul into the Instrument (a Seventh Ray process of purification via illumination).

If practiced on a regular basis, particularly if part of a morning ritual, the Transmutation Technique brings the Light of the Soul into and through the persona instrument, in a process that aligns the instrument with and makes it more responsive to the Soul.

The resulting sensitivity and responsiveness is necessary to the later meditation work, for without it the instrument is slow to respond, and when it does it reacts with resistance.

The resulting resistance of substance is both passive and active.

The passive resistance is the native resistance of form to changing its motion. Once set in motion, changing that motion requires a clear focus of intent on the moving substance, until that substance is impressed with and responds (with a new motion) to that intent. The Transmutation Technique transforms the instrument into a clear lens through which that intent or purpose can be focused and impressed on substance.

The active resistance of substance arises when an old intent (either outmoded or distorted, but still active) is opposed to or distorts the new intent. Opposition arises when, for instance, the intent to realize Universal Brotherhood encounters the thought, feeling, or outer expression of separation (such as prejudice of all sorts). Distortion arises when, for instance, the intent must pass through an unfocused mental instrument, a foggy astral body, and/or a disorganized physical-etheric vehicle. The result is illusion on the mental, glamour on the astral, maya on the physical-etheric, and a distorted form of expression in the physical-dense.

Since part of the function of the persona instrument is to reflect Divine Intent into the three lower worlds, that instrument must not only be focused and clear, it must also be creative. The Transmutation Technique also accustoms the instruments mental, emotional, physical-etheric, and physical-dense to respond creatively to Soul impress. The instrument aligns with the Soul in the Transmutation Technique, invokes its Light, then shapes that Light with mental energy (thought), astral force (emotional feelings), and physical-etheric activity. In this way, the persona instrument learns to be creative in response to the Soul.

Thus, the Transmutation Technique gradually melts away both the passive and active resistance of the form, and enables the instrument to connect with and respond creatively to the Soul, producing a vehicle for Divine intent.

Now, when one first begins to practice the Transmutation Technique the instrument will find all kinds of methods of resisting. This resistance often comes in the form of distractions in:

The physical environment and instrument: These may vary from mild difficulty in creating a quiet space in which to meditate regularly, to major demands that take students out of a class entirely (which often happens at or around Lesson 8).

The emotional instrument: The astral body may refuse to quiet, producing a confusion of images and other sensations, and/or it may refuse to respond to the higher impulse and appear still and empty.

The mental instrument: The mental body may refuse to turn its focus from familiar thoughts to focus on the Soul, and/or, having focused on the Soul it may channel the Soul Light downward through the familiar territory of old thoughts, temporarily distorting that Light.

In any case, regular, persistent Invocation of the Light will produce a response. That response will include some degree of resistance, but if the practitioner persists the effects of the Transmutation Technique will become apparent.

The transmutation technique given on pg. 103 is one of the most important techniques in this course. It gives you an effective method of dealing with the negativity within your own equipment and environment. The wise probationer looks upon this technique (or one like it) as an essential part of his/her regular meditation practice.

As an assignment, the transmutation technique is to be practiced at least 3 times a week for the next 4 weeks (in addition to your other meditation assignments). The Meditation Report on this technique will be due in 4 weeks, at the beginning of Lesson 12.

An Outline of The Transmutation Technique

“This technique can be utilized each evening before retiring, or as needed.

1. Make the usual three-fold lower alignment and focus the consciousness in the ajna center.

2. Integrate the consciousness in aspiration to the soul.” As discussed earlier, the soul or consciousness is three-fold in nature. It consists of 1. The animal soul, which relates man to the animal kingdom. 2. The human soul, which relates man to the human kingdom. 3. the overshadowing Spiritual Soul, which relates man to the spiritual kingdom. The process of integrating this three-fold consciousness into one, incarnate Spiritual Soul can be facilitated by sounding the following seed-thought:

I integrate my three-fold consciousness into one unit in aspiration to the soul.

“3. Visualize a triangle of light between the:

Soul

yourself as the observer in the Ajna

subconscious”

Having established your point of focus as an integrated consciousness in the ajna, you complete the above triangular alignment by:

  1. Aspiring to the soul: From your focus in the ajna, draw a line of light upward (in frequency, not really in direction) to the Overshadowing Spiritual Soul.
  2. Recognizing the existence of the subconscious: From your focus in the ajna, draw a line of light down and outward (in frequency) to the subconscious portion of your astral-emotional body. Then draw a line of light from the subconscious upward (in frequency) to the Overshadowing Spiritual Soul.

This completes a triangle of light connecting the Soul, ajna, and subconscious.

“4. Repeat slowly and carefully:

“The Light of the Soul is thrown downward into the instrument to reveal, cleanse, and purify that which is karmically ready to be brought to Light in Divine Law and Order. I stand clear, observing only.”

Hold that note for a moment, then stop and simply observe your persona equipment from your point of awareness in the ajna center. This permits your soul, through its light, to reveal a portion of the content of your subconscious.

Very shortly you will become aware of an emotion. It may be a form of resentment, anger, jealousy, or fear. Whatever form the emotion has taken, it will be a negative influence in your life and affairs. As you observe this emotion, you will see how it became a part of your subconscious and the part it has played in your life and affairs.

“5. Transmute whatever negativity is revealed into its polar opposite via the application of Love. ”

This is accomplished by realizing and projecting love to:

  1. Yourself, as you were when you received the initial impact that created the unconscious pattern of negativity.
  2. Those involved in making that initial impact.
  3. The original situation.
  4. All persons everywhere who participate in activities similar to the original situation.

“6. Meditate for three minutes on the concept: ‘THE TRUTH SHALL MAKE ME FREE’.

Spend a few moments radiating the Light of Truth through the instrument and into the environment.”
